BLOX Metering uses cookies to track articles. BLOX CMS uses the following features to prevent fraudulent access to a site with metering enabled:

  • The content behind the BLOX paywall is encrypted and cannot be viewed simply by viewing the document source, or using CSS to ‘uncover’ the content.
  • Since BLOX content is encrypted, turning off JavaScript or using private browsing mode will not allow users to read the content.
  • Clearing Cookies:
    • Zen -  If a user Clears Cookies, BLOX will detect that cookies are missing and will recreate them - with the same article count - within seconds.
    • Flex - The only fix for this is to secure your site completely with a hard paywall.  The metering is in place to drive traffic to your site and generate revenue (via advertising, generating subscriptions, etc.) but if someone does Clear Cookies, it will reset the metering.   The only fix for this is to secure your site completely with a hard paywall.
  • BLOX tracks the articles that have been visited by a reader and will not reduce the remaining article count when the same article is visited multiple times.
