BLOX Total CMS version 1.32.2-4
When syndicating assets, the Tagline field now syndicates.
When uploading video assets, the asset will now be locked immediately if it needs to be converted before it can be used.
If you attempt to create a YouTube asset from one flagged by the creator as non-embedable, you should now get a message like this: "The content owner has disabled embedding of this video."
As assets were deleted, some sites with a large number of AP assets could get behind as a maximum of 5000 deletions could be handled at once. The deletion function has been changed to accommodate whatever needs to be deleted. This then improves performance of replication, snapshots, and more.
If a site added a LARGE number of inline assets (say > 60) it could cause the asset to fail to open. This has been corrected.
A bug was fixed where each time an asset was syndicated from one domain to another, if the DRM rule specified an embargo time, the embargo time was replicated. Thus a 24 hour embargo became a 48, 72, etc.
If an asset was deleted that had a parent from an application that doesn't currently exist, the asset itself couldn't be un-deleted. This most often showed up in assets from BLOX Total CMS at sites using Page Tracker and that had assets that were syndicated to Hosted BLOX with a specified delete time -- such as AP assets. Then once in hosted if it got deleted, and then a users wanted to un-delete it, it wouldn't because Page Tracker didn't exist in Hosted BLOX. This issue has been resolved and unaccessable parent applications no longer block un-deletions.
Assets with Teaser Images now properly syndicate with the Teaser Images. In the past, the first child would become the Teaser Image.
Automatic Importers based upon last updated time would sometimes fail if there was a heavy load on the appliance. This has been corrected.
The tncms_images parser that can be used for image import jobs will now extract keywords from the IPTC/XMP data attached to the image.
Page Tracker version 1.2.0
Page Tracker now uses its own internal syndication function to send PDFs and Segmentation Data to Live e-Edition. In the past, if a site's internet was down, any information destined for Live e-Edition would be skipped. This was actually pretty common at some of our very small sites, and even occasionally happened at our larger sites. The syndication feature will keep trying for up to one week until it gets confirmation that the PDF and segmentation data made it to Live e-Editions.
The Page View inside of Live e-Edition now contains a Send Segments button to resend the page's PDF and segmentation data. This is a backup feature of the above syndication function. It is also very useful for testing.
Page Tracker and Assignments now both have a purge feature in each's Application Settings. The default is set for 400 days (about 13+ months). Other options are 40, 100, and 200 days. This has the advantage of reducing the database size and thus increasing performance.
Sorting assets by Slug in the Assignments Tool are no longer case sensitive.
When an Editorial Asset is deleted, neither Page Tracker nor the Assignment Tool will attempt to recreate the parent child relationships again.
The Page Creation Settings had a bug where if a user entered special characters into some fields (description, symbol, etc.) the results would fail to save properly and some of the other settings would become corrupted. This has been corrected. In some cases you won't be allowed to type certain characters. In other cases the characters will be escaped properly internally to allow their use.
Associated Press version 4.8.0 and Syndication Tool 1.7.0
Associated Press Image Assets (including children of articles) will now import with a Slug. The slug will be related to how the Associated Press named the image. This is a big improvement from the way that the AP Web-Feed Manager (WFM) imported assets with no slug. This is very handy for sites using the slug based image toning features in the BLOX Total CMS client for Adobe InDesign as in most cases each image will now have a unique slug.
Rather than using mySQL as all other Syndication Tool channels do, the Associated Press will now use SOLR for searching. This dramatically increases the performance of searching Associated Press channels and it returns some of the normal Editorial search functionality. For some sites, this will be the reason to upgrade to Appliance OS version 2.15.0.
AP article assets with child image should show the first child image's preview in the Search Results in the Browser Interface. This makes it behave like the live asset search and provides a quick method to find parent article assets with attached artwork.
When searching in an Associated Press channel, the number of actual search results are now displayed. In the past in only listed "1 of many".
We have optimized the process BLOX uses to connect to AP and update stories. In general, you may notice a slight performance improvement.
The Appliance based Syndication Tool will no longer use a proxy service to fetch previews of images as it isn't needed. This means, among other things, that remote uses of appliances from sites that port the appliance through the firewall will be allowed to see preview images of Associated Press images. This also allows sites to log into the browser interface using a DNS shortcut and view the image previews.
RSS / ATOM feeds via the Syndication Tool will have the URL of the child assets set to match the parent asset to improve SEO.
The last run time of an importer is now set After the importer runs. This allows for more accurate accounting of what was imported and in.
During the update of parent assets in an Associated Press channel, sometimes the child assets would be disassociated. This has been fixed.
If a child image attempted to be updated from an Associated Press channel, but the update failed, in the child would be disconnected from the parent asset when the prior version was perfectly fine. This rare edge case has been fixed.
Appliance OS changes
Following this appliance release, all future GA appliance updates can be automatically downloaded if enabled in the Admin interface. (Note: only the first available update will be downloaded.)
Sites can now add Multiple DNS servers to an appliance. The previous limit was one DNS and that caused issues if the DNS was down.
Sites can now add their own internet security certificates to private CA bundles on the appliance. If a site uses internal proxies for some services, this allows the appliance to function properly without getting blocked because of missing security certificates.
E-mails from the Appliance Admin (such as sent during updates, reboots, lack of internet access, etc) are now formatted so that they are more easily readable on mobile devices.
