The release notes for BLOX Total CMS client for Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy version 5.36.x can be found here.

5.35.03-3 Released 2019.03.21

UI Bug Fix) An earlier version changed some the maximum size that the Ad Statuses dialog was allowed to grow to. Unfortunately, it failed with some odd sizes that are options on some users workstations if the user had more than one monitor available. To counteract this, if a user has more than one display attached, we are now forcing the maximum size of the Asset Manager to slightly smaller than the smallest dimensions of all screens. JIRA INDESIGN-1140

Bug Fix) The new keyboard shortcuts for snippets had two bugs. The first was a typo in the name showing in the dialog. The second prevented failing matches from deselecting snippets in the Quick Apply style dialog. Both have been fixed. JIRA INDESIGN-2185

5.35.03-2 Released 2019.03.19

Bug Fix) Both prior and latter versions of the client software fixed an issue where the the Create Edition from Edition File dialog would not provide accurate wireframe views of the pages in Page Tracker. This fix wasn't included in the 5.35.x version of the client until now. JIRA INDESIGN-2092

5.35.03-1 Released 2018.12.20

New Feature of Snippets) You can now locate Windows Shortcuts or MacOS Alias files in snippet folders. This is particularly useful for the Page Content Type snippets. In that case, place the original in the publication code folders and additional ones in the other folders. JIRA INDESIGN-698.

Minor Change) When exporting a snippet, it now clears any inline asset information that might have been embedded in the frames of the snippet. This makes the snippet smaller but otherwise has no features/benefits. JIRA INDESIGN-1718

Bug Fix) Their was a bug with creating the Page Tracker wireframes from pages produced with Create Edition from Edition File. The problem is that the wireframes were produced twice. The first time was correct and showed the ads, but the second time cleared the ads and only generated a full page wireframe. This has been fixed and now, when selecting the Create Wireframes in the dialog, the wireframes will indeed be created correctly. JIRA INDESIGN-2092

New Feature) There is a new keyboard shortcut accessible dialog for placing the first 36 snippets contained in the Shortcuts folder for each type of snippet. The function opens a dialog that supports a single keystroke for selecting the snippet. Following it with a return / enter key will allow the snippet to be placed. To enable this feature, create MacOS aliases or Windows shortcuts into the Shortcuts folder for each type of snippets. Once configured the entire process works similar to Adobe InDesign's QuickApply function, but for Snippets. The dialog itself can be given a keyboard shortcut or it may be manually reached by choosing BLOX Total CMS > Place Design Element Snippet > Design Element Snippet Shortcuts... OR BLOX Total CMS > Place Page Design Snippet > Page Design Snippet Shortcuts... JIRA INDESIGN-2185

Minor Bug Fix) A typo prevented the automatic size reduction of the Settings and Support dialog when the monitor dimension was smaller than 1600 pixels wide. This has been corrected and the OK button should not be visible at all practical screen resolutions. JIRA INDESIGN-2226

Minor Logging Bug Fix) When exporting snippets of frames without assignments, a warning was logged that the assignment couldn't be found. This warning message has been replaced with a simpler informational message. JIRA INDESIGN-2290

Improvement) When exporting snippets, the dialog will default to the last type of snippet you exported if you are exporting a new snippet. This makes it easier to export a string of Page Design snippets, for example. A prior feature in version 5.35.x allows an individual snippet to remember its type and name and override this feature for previously exported snippets. JIRA INDESIGN-2398

Minor Change) The ability to export a snippet for use with Adobe InCopy is now correctly limited to only Design Element Snippets. JIRA INDESIGN-2401

Improvement) When exporting snippets, there is a new option to Maintain All. This then marks the snippet frames so that when an asset is flowed, the frames themselves determine their size and formatting. JIRA INDESIGN-2408

5.35.02 Released 2018.12.13

Minor Change) When Exporting snippets, all the frames are now set to automatically allow export from the frames and overriding that setting on the selected frames. In nearly every case imaginable, users will see no differences in behavior. JIRA INDEDSIGN-173

Major Bug Fix) Since the first version of Export Snippet, some users occasionally experienced export failures while ungrouping the snippet's XML if the snippet contained certain graphics. This has finally been corrected. In addition, the new method works significantly faster than the old method. JIRA INDESIGN-409

Improvement) When exporting a snippet, the path to the snippet is now always shown at the bottom of the dialog box. In the past, it was own shown for Development Mode users. This allows all users to see the path to where their snippet is located at and most importantly, clearly shows the Recently Added folder name (or whatever it has been changed to). JIRA INDESIGN-716.

New Feature) We have received some comments from sites placing page design snippets automatically based on the Page Content Type that they occasionally will produce warnings about the snippets being in use. In addition, when sites complain about Adobe InDesign crashes, to find patterns, we wanted to know what snippets were being used. To solve both issues, we now make a backup copy of the snippet into the document's Backups folder and place the backup snippet file on the Adobe InDesign page. This prevents the snippet from being placed simultaneously and being in use. It also provides an audit trail so we can determine which snippets have been used. JIRA INDESIGN-910

Minor Bug Fix) The menu function for the Edition Report, a feature for Adobe Creative Cloud users, failed to enable/disable when toggling the Enhanced Mode. This has been fixed and its access is now controlled by that Enhanced Mode option. JIRA INDESIGN-1674

  • We would appreciate hearing about any additional features sites need added to this report. Please file a support ticket at

Bug fix) The Template Master function to remove stored inline assets wouldn't work. This was part of the 5.32.02 release that led to the Spawn Template feature. The function now works correctly and deletes the stored inline assets from the active document. JIRA INDESIGN-1719

Improvement) It was always documented that output naming conventions could not start with a constant (a lower case character to be converted to an uppercase character. We have changed the naming so that they can now start with constants if needed. JIRA INDESIGN-2194

5.35.01 Released 2018.11.30

Bug Fix) Many users through the years have tried to name snippets with apostrophes. Unfortunately, that caused the Snippet menus to not be completely drawable. Now, when exporting a snippet, you can no longer type an apostrophe. Actually, the names are limited to upper and lower case letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens, underscores, ampersands, and the at symbol. Any existing snippets are fine. This change only affects snippets exported using the option at BLOX Total CMS > Export Snippet. Access to Export Snippet, by the way, is controlled by an option in BLOX Total CMS > Settings and Support. JIRA INDESIGN-817

Major New Feature) Article Assets in Adobe InCopy can now be edited in the geometry of a snippet _before_ it is placed on a page. This requires special snippets to be exported using Development Mode and with the Allow Adobe InCopy Editing option chosen when exporting the Snippet. It also requires the Creative Cloud versions of Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy. Finally, for Windows users, the file server must be accessible with a non-dotted path (using a normal dns name should work, IP address for fully qualified DNS names using dotted paths will not work). JIRA INDESIGN-1689

New Feature) When exporting snippets, the frames of the snippet are now internally tagged with the name and snippet that they were exported with. This allows them to be re-exported without needing to specify the name again as both name and snippet type will be pre-filled. Note, they do not store their destination and will continue to go to the Recently Added folder or the name of the folder according to the browser based preference for the domain. JIRA INDESIGN-2216

Minor Bug Fix) The user interface would allow a user to attempt to place a page design snippet even though a document wasn't open. This has been corrected. JIRA INDESIGN-2216

New Feature) In the browser interface, if the name of a snippet is listed in the Print Notes field, like this: Snippet: Basic 2 Column Story, then if the asset is opened in Adobe InCopy _before_ it is placed on the page, then the asset will open using the geometry of the snippet. This works snippets that have been exported using the new Allow Adobe InCopy Editing within the Snippet option. In addition, you will find this snippet name note added to the Print Notes if the snippet was selected in Adobe InCopy instead of the browser interface. JIRA INDESIGN-2394

Snippet Export Improvement) When exporting a snippet containing an image asset, the image is now automatically removed from the frame before the export of the snippet is completed. This makes it suitable for re-use as it was intended. In the past, users had to manually remove the images before exporting the snippet. JIRA INDESIGN-2405

Snippet Export Improvement) When exporting Design Element snippets, all the frames, including the graphics holding frames, will be tagged with the same placeholder file reference. This makes exporting snippets with image frames much easier. JIRA INDESIGN-2406
